Motivational Training to Improve the Professional Skill of the Science Teachers (2nd Batch) held on August-2016

BFF organized a ‘Motivation Training to Improve the Professional Skill of High School Science Teachers of Rangpur districts on August 29-31,2016 at Northern Training and and Resource Center (NTRC) Rangpur, in collaboration with, Debi Chowdhurani Palli Unnayan Kendra (DCPUK), Ramnathpur Bahumukhi nabayan Sangha (RBNS) and DOPS Foundation. Rangpur Teachers’ Training College (RTTC) provided academic support to the program with their training and teaching resources.

This was the second training program of this type with the Science teachers of Rangpur Districts. The major objectives of this three-day training were to find out teaching techniques those will make the class room attractive and mind catching to the students; collect, create and usage of low and no-cost practical equipments; laboratory management and, at the same time, make an opportunity for the teachers to share their knowhow on science teaching at the class..

Science teachers of 45 high schools from Badarganj, Pirgacha and Kawnia Upazilla of Rangpur districts attended the training. There were a number of sessions conducted by teachers of RTTC. Teachers shared their experience in teaching, about methods they usually implement in their classroom. The sessions included teaching and learning methodology, practical usage of teaching materials, creative teaching of a creative teacher, integrated and participatory teaching, modern classroom management, practical teaching of science classes, evaluation methodology, extra-curricular activities to popularize science with some demonstrations of some experiments of text book using common everyday use objects.

ADC (Education and ICTs) of Rangpur Mr. Priyo Sindhu Talukder attended the closing and certificate Distribution Ceremony as chief guest. The closing program was presided over by Mr. Nurul Islam Dulu, Executive Director of DCPUK. Mr. Sazzadur Rahman Chowdhury, Executive Director of BFF bestowed the certificate as special guest to the participants. Executive Director of RBNS Mr. Saiful Islam and a number of press reporters also attended the program.

BFF-Samakal 4th National School Science Debate 2016 held

Started on March 18, 2016, BFF-SAMAKAL National Science Debate 2016 concluded on June 04, 2016. The Grand Finale was held at Dhaka Residential Model College auditorium on June 03-04, 2016. This is the 4th time BFF and The Daily Samakal organized this national event since 2013. The major objective of this contest was to promote and popularize science through the participation of higher secondary students at a debate contest across the country.

A number of 1,560 debaters as representatives of 520 high schools of 64 districts participated in this contest. The district and divisional level contest ended on May 07, 2016. Champions of divisional level and Dhaka metropolitan city contested at the final round. The primary round held in all 64 districts. The district champion got the chance to compete in the regional level. The whole country was divided into 9 regions.

  • Dhaka-1 comprising of selected 8 districts of Dhaka division,
  • Dhaka-2 comprising of Dhaka district including Dhaka city,
  • Chittagong comprising of all 8 districts of Chittagong division,
  • Sylhet comprising of 5 districts,
  • Rajshahi comprising of 7 districts,
  • Rangpur comprising of 7 districts,
  • Khulna comprising of 8 districts,
  • Barisal comprising of 8 districts,
  • Mymensingh comprising of 5 districts

Kishorganj S V Government Girls’ High School team won the championship defeating Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, Dhaka in the final. Safwat Saima Arpi, team leader of the champion team, was awarded as the best debater. Other semifinalist teams were Bohumukhi Collegiate School, Bagerhat and Government Agrogami Gils School, Sylhet. The Champion team was awarded by a champion trophy, individual medal and individual laptop. The judges panels in local and national sessions were formed with the former debater, educationalist, college teachers, activist of the debating clubs, judges in television debates.

Begum Matia Chowdhury MP, Honourable Minister of Agriculture attended the closing and prize giving ceremony as a chief guest on June 04, 2016.Dr. Dr. Rezaur Rahman, Former Chief Scientist of Atomic Energy Commission and Honourable Trustee of BFF; Executive Editor of SAMAKAL Mr. Mustafiz Shafi and Executive Director of BFF Mr. Sazzadur Rahman Chowdhury; Mr. Atiqul Haque, Managing Director, BANGAS Limited; Abdur Rahman Khan Rana, Director, Agami Education Foundation; Mr. Sirajul Islam Abed, Coordinator, Surid Samabesh,(readers’ forum) Samakal also spoke at the program. Principal of DRMC Brigadier General Abdul Hannan chaired the session.

Begum Matia Chowdhury MP said that the flow of information will enhance the opportunity of science education. At the same time, cyber crimes and abuse of internet should be regulated. He urged to the debaters to enrich themselves with this kind of opportunities and to stand beside one another. He informed the audience about the initiatives taken by the government to improve agriculture and gene technologies in Bangladesh.

Prominent Scientist Rezaul Karim talked about the allocations for education in fiscal budget. He informed that budget allocation in education is the lowest in percentage among other south Asian nations in Bangladesh. He emphasized on the eligible science teachers in rural education. Chief Guest awarded the prize to the winners. Sazzadur Rahman Chowdhury Thanked to the partners and sponsors for their contribution and cooperation to the program. He expressed his eagerness to organize this competition at a large and more organized way in future.

The National Science Olympiad 2012 held at BUET Campus on January 27, 2012

The BAS Science Olympiad 2012 (NSO 2012) was held successfully this year both at the divisional level and national level. The Divisional Science Olympiad 2012 was held in 14 Centers (3 centers in the metropolitan Dhaka and 11 centers throughout the country ) covering the remote areas, like Mongla Port in the Southwest, Bandarban, Khagrachari in the Southeast, Sylhet in the Northeast and  Rajshahi in the Northwest region of the country.

The National Science Olympiad 2012 was held on Friday 27 January at the Bangladesh University of Science and Technology.  The Olympiad started at 9.00 am with national anthem and flag hoisting. As the President of the Academy, Prof. Dr. M Shamsher Ali was abroad, Prof. Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmad, Vice President, BAS hoisted the national flag and inaugurated the National Science Olympiad 2012. The test for the NSO 2012 started in BUET new building at 10.00 am and continued for one and a half hour. The open question and answer session started at 11.45 am and continued up to 1.00pm. 

The Prize Distribution Ceremony was held at 2.30 pm. It was chaired by Academy Vice President, Prof. Dr. Meshabuddin Ahmad as the President, BAS, Prof. Dr. M Shamsher Ali was abroad. The Chief Guest Prof. Dr. S. M. Nazrul Isalm, Vice Chancellor, BUET distributed Medals, Certificates, Scholarship and books to the Olympiad champions. This year, the Daily SAMAKAL being the co-organizer of the NSO 2012, added a new dimension in the publicity of the divisional and national Olympiad. The Daily published pictures of the participants, winner and champions of the Olympiad and also published articles of Prof. Dr. Naiyyum Choudhury, Secretary, BAS and Prof. Dr. M Kaykobad, coordinator of BAS SO 2012. Total 5602 students participated in the Olympiad from all over Bangladesh. 510 students participated in the National Science Olympiad 2012.

Science Olympiad held in Cittagong

Science Olympiad held in Chittagong on January 13, 2012 

Aiming at enthusing the students of schools and colleges with science education, the third Divisional Science Olympiad was held at Premier University in the port city yesterday.

The Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) in association with the university’s Chittagong campus arranged the Olympiad, which was followed by a discussion and an award giving ceremony. A total of 353 students from 24 schools and colleges of Chittagong division took part in the science competition.

Prof Dr Anupam Sen, vice chancellor of Premier University; Dr Iftekheruddin Chowdhury, a dean of the university; and Dr Mohammad Kaikobad, a professor at the Bangladesh of University of Technology and Science (Buet); were present at the programme among others.
